Heart to Release New Album in July

Heart - Beautiful Broken

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame members Heart will release a new album called Beautiful Broken on July 8.  The release features a mix of new songs and reworked versions of various gems from Ann and Nancy Wilson’s extensive song catalog.

“There is really a seventies feel to this record both in the sound, and the way we got to the emotional core of each song,” says Nancy in the band’s press release. “We picked songs that we always wanted to re-do, plus we’ve added three new tracks. On both new and old, we have the band playing together the way we used to. This is classic Heart.”

One of the songs getting a makeover is the album’s title track which features dynamic guest vocals by Metallica’s James Hetfield. Originally a bonus track off Fanatic, the band’s last album, the new version of “Beautiful Broken” is metal-fied with barnburner vocals, and even some lyrics, added by Hetfield. “It blows the previous version out of the water,” says Nancy. “James just took the song on, and what he added was perfect with a bite and a rock accent.”

Other songs pulled from the Heart catalog include “City’s Burning,” “Down on Me” and “Sweet Darlin’.” “Those songs may have fallen through the cracks, in a way, because of where radio was at the time when they were first released,” says Ann. “Rediscovering those songs, I found ways they emotionally still speak to me.”

Fans may be familiar with one of the album’s new tunes, “Two.” The band started performing the Ne-Yo penned song during their 2015 fall tour. It was a tune that Ann just had to have. “I went to work begging for the song,” she says. “Ne-Yo said, ‘sure.’ It ends up he’s a Heart fan. He may still release his own version at some point, but to me the song feels like mine now.”

Beautiful Broken, Heart’s sixteenth album and first with Concord Records, is available for PRE-ORDER now.
